In the ever-evolving landscape of health and wellness, West Hollywood stands out as a hub of innovation and trendsetting fitness concepts. Amidst this vibrant scene, Evoken Wellness Studio has carved out its own niche, offering a transformative approach that goes beyond the physical. As the studio celebrates its one-year anniversary this month, founder Janina Washington reflects on an incredible journey of growth, perseverance, and community building.

“I launched Evoken because Pilates changed my life—it transformed my body and mindset, and I wanted to create a space where others could have that same experience,” Janina shared. Raised in the UK, Janina relocated to Los Angeles in 2010 to continue her already flourishing modeling and acting career. Impressively, she juggled her busy schedule to open and operate Evoken, creating a studio that redefines what a wellness space can be. “The studio is designed to be a sanctuary where you can connect with your breath, relax, and feel challenged but never defeated. It’s about mind-body connection and creating a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.”

Located at 1105 N. Hayworth Ave, Evoken’s elegant and intimate space is designed to be more than just a place to work out, it’s a place to unwind. Classes include pilates, yoga, and sound bath meditations, and more recently, the addition of the new wellness suite. Offering advanced recovery services such as contrast therapy, infrared saunas, and cold plunge baths, with the addition of the private wellness suite, Evoken is a one-stop destination that caters to the holistic needs of its clients, combining fitness with elements of relaxation and mental wellness.

Evoken’s success can be attributed to its holistic approach, something Janina is particularly proud of. “We don’t just focus on fitness; we focus on creating an entire experience,” she explained. “From the moment you walk in, the energy is different—it’s warm, welcoming, and uplifting. We always have a beautiful aroma and thoughtfully curated playlists.” Clients have responded enthusiastically to this unique blend of physical and mental wellness, as evidenced by the studio’s staggering achievement of over 11,000 five-star reviews in its first year.

This rapid success has spurred interest from around the world. “We’ve received requests from clients to expand to cities like New York, London, and even Mexico City,” Janina revealed. Such demand has influenced Evoken’s long-term strategy as the studio looks to extend its footprint beyond Los Angeles. “Knowing there’s such demand in these hotspots has influenced our long-term plans for expansion.”

As Evoken enters its second year, Janina and her team are focused on expanding their services to include offerings such as lymphatic drainage massages, IV treatments, and launching exclusive wellness retreats. “We’re excited to introduce more wellness-focused services,” Janina shared. “Having just launched our new wellness suite, it’s an incredible addition for those looking to incorporate recovery into their routine.”

Despite its impressive growth, Evoken’s journey hasn’t been easy . “The first year wasn’t without challenges,” Janina admitted. “Coming from a background of financial hardship, I had to rely on personal loans from friends. There were days where I wore ten different hats, handling everything from customer service to event planning. But the support of my team, our amazing instructors, and my partner made it all worthwhile. It truly does take a village.” The experience has taught Janina the importance of resilience and adaptability, qualities that have become the backbone of Evoken’s brand identity.

The studio’s one-year anniversary celebration on October 5th was a testament to this sense of community. The exclusive VIP event featured live music by DJ Tess, a cocktail and mocktail bar, tarot readings, and raffle prizes. Specialty gift bags, curated through exclusive brand collaborations with Link x Lou, Four Sigmatic, Koa Life, BOMANI, Nialaya, Zero Proof, and more, added a touch of luxury to the evening. Red Carpet arrivals kicked off the event, setting the tone for a memorable night of celebration and connection.

    IMG 1093 enhanced 1

“Our first year has been an incredible journey,” Janina shared. “Seeing the impact we’ve made over the past year and hearing the heartfelt feedback from our clients has been the ultimate success. We’ve built a strong community, and I’m beyond grateful for the support and enthusiasm of our clients and partners.”

As Evoken moves forward, Janina’s vision remains clear: to continue building a wellness space that nurtures both body and mind, while expanding its influence to new locations. With her focus on innovation, community, and holistic health, Janina Washington is poised to become a leader in the wellness industry as Evoken’s growing success has proven… she’s setting new standards for what a fitness studio experience can be.

  • Markus Schulz on LA’s Dance Music Legacy & Dreamstate Return

Markus Schulz on LA’s Dance Music Legacy & Dreamstate Return

With the release of his exclusive mix for the signature In Search of Sunrise (Black Hole Recordings) compilation series, Markus Schulz has Los Angeles on his mind. The City of Angels has always held a dear place in the global trance/progressive music DJ/producer’s heart. The new In Search of Sunrise 20 (ISoS20) release commemorates the 20th edition and 25 years of the series, a must-have mix compilation for every self-respecting electronic dance music (EDM) lover. Though he spends every weekend touring the world and DJing in venues intimate, huge and festival mega-sized, he somehow always manages to come back around to Los Angeles. Considering he spends more time on First Class flights than most flight attendants, we wondered what it was about L.A., exactly, that keeps drawing this globetrotter back time and again. On the eve of Markus Schulz’s return to The Golden Stage to play Dreamstate on November 22nd, 2024, L.A. Examiner sat down with the man himself to discover what makes him tick.

L.A. Examiner: You’re somewhat of a DJ legend around L.A., a metropolis that’s very fickle when it comes to nightlife. What is it about your relationship with Los Angeles that’s proved so resilient over the years?

Markus Schulz: The Los Angeles chapter of my career has to be among the most important. When I started touring, I was quite intimidated by playing in Los Angeles and wasn’t sure if I belonged in the same sentence as the greats of our scene. I was really lucky that there was a small but very passionate selection of fans who embraced my sound early on, and it was through their enthusiasm and word-of-mouth that the number of people coming to see me would grow quite quickly. I’ve never forgotten those people. What makes it special is that they are still coming to the shows to this day.

L.A. Examiner: Take us to the beginnings of your involvement with Avalon Hollywood. When you first started performing there, did you envision your events would become the beasts they’ve become?

    AD 4nXfzi4CmKCVVnwEM27g EL95fsRvfM QVv5q3M8pz3f pk15vK8MrrZ4e1qjpiE0t8E0M1yQnzj5A

Markus Schulz: It would have been around the late 2000s. I didn’t really have a regular home in the clubs there. Most of my appearances in Southern California were at the big arena or outdoor events such as Monster Massive and Together As One. But when I was booked to play at Avalon, knowing that there was an after hours culture and the club would stay open beyond 2am, it really fed into my soul as a DJ.

L.A. Examiner: So, in a way, the city’s culture inspired you artistically, which in turn allowed you to grow your foothold in Los Angeles?

Markus Schulz: I used to have a mix compilation series themed around certain cities around the world which held special resonance, and the 2012 edition was dedicated to Los Angeles. For the release party, we took over Avalon for two consecutive nights on Presidents’ Day weekend. The first night was my first open to close solo set experience at the venue, and on the second I was joined for back to back sessions with a selection of DJs from the Coldharbour Recordings family. That sowed the seeds for everything that has happened at Avalon since.

L.A. Examiner: You are one of the rare DJs on earth who regularly play “marathon” DJ sets exceeding eight, nine, 10 hours, often more. In and around L.A., your New Year’s Eve shows at Avalon Hollywood (open-to-close, naturally) came to be known in some circles as almost a rite-of-passage for ringing-in the New Year. Can you share with us some of your all-time highlights and memories?

Markus Schulz: It’s an incredible privilege to have been able to play open to close sets at a historic venue like Avalon on so many occasions, especially on New Year’s Eve. I haven’t kept count, but it must be getting close to 10 times, soon. The great thing about them is because Los Angeles is a destination city, people from all over the United States and even internationally plan trips around the shows; so it feels like there’s a worldwide family housed within those famous walls.

The most memorable moment I ever had was when I proposed to [my wife] Adina [Butar] onstage on New Year’s Eve. I was so nervous about it and had practiced the sequence with my visuals guy to make sure everything was right. Adina had been onstage performing and thought she was about to start singing another song, when the audio changed to “Destiny,” one of my biggest tracks and a personal one because I wrote it about her. I get emotional thinking about it because Adina’s parents were there, and mine were there, too. My mother, Rose, passed away in February 2019, only a few months before the wedding; but I look back and I was so grateful she got to experience such a personal moment.

L.A. Examiner: Where else can dance music-lovers find you playing in the L.A. metro area?

Markus Schulz: I’m delighted to be playing Dreamstate Southern California on November 22nd. I’ve played Insomniac’s events all over the world – from Poland to Mexico and in the U.S. in San Francisco and Chicago – so, to finally play at the one where the Dreamstate experience began will be pretty cool.

  • Stars for Harris: Celebrities Endorsing Kamala

Stars for Harris: Celebrities Endorsing Kamala

After gradually shrinking away from Joe Biden in the final weeks of his campaign, many of the biggest entertainment stars are now throwing their support behind Kamala Harris. Like many billionaires and big donors who had soured on the president, stars seem invigorated by the prospect of a Harris campaign. While Biden’s campaign seemed like a foregone conclusion for the longest time, the switch to Harris has served to inject some much-needed enthusiasm into the Democratic party and its supporters.

While some celebrities have expressed their support online or through donations, others have performed at Harris rallies. The Democratic National Convention was a star-studded event, with everyone from John Legend to Julia Louis-Dreyfus coming out to show support for Harris’ campaign efforts.

These are some of the biggest Hollywood names publicly endorsing Harris.

    Bruce Springsteen

“Donald Trump is the most dangerous candidate for President in my lifetime,” Bruce Springsteen said in a video published on Instagram on Thursday. Bruce Springsteen endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the same video, saying that he sees her as the future of America.

    AD 4nXc2FhbhQVln5wQA8aUsBu bkaxp2PKsqWvA9GEFBjc yQGCBjCZY7Ty0krL392 rwBgmrwWXPs UQV7aSu0pLGmzyO3GTvL7mehkqGRQzKiXJ76Ri5EMnsOHQ4MkAy3sTmdWuGhAdmWUT5T a6tM0k G2m8?key=npXLN6y r9omzX1aoc2yIw

    Ethan Hawke

Ethan Hawke affirmed his support for Kamala Harris in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

    Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell

Siblings Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell took to Instagram on National Voter Registration Day to post a video endorsing Kamala Harris.

“We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms, and our future,” said O’Connell, adding, “The only way to stop them and the dangerous Project 2025 agenda is to vote and elect Kamala Harris.”

    Taylor Swift

Pop star Taylor Swift endorsed Harris for president on September 10, minutes after the ABC News presidential debate between the vice president and former President Donald Trump ended.

Swift’s efforts alone drove unprecedented online traffic to voter registration sites and Harris’ campaign site. Notably, Swift’s endorsement of his opponent also outraged Donald Trump, who had previously attempted to claim Swift’s vote as his own prematurely because he was fooled by some poorly-made AI art of her fans wearing Trump regalia.

    George Clooney

After publishing an opinion piece calling on Biden to step aside earlier this month, the actor and Democratic donor endorsed Harris while speaking on CNN on Tuesday.

“President Biden has shown what true leadership is,” Clooney said. “He’s saving democracy once again. We’re all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest.”

    Oprah Winfrey

Oprah made a surprise appearance at this year’s DNC and told voters to “choose common sense over nonsense.” A registered independent, she appealed to undecided voters and told them that “decency and respect are on the ballot.”

    Aaron Sorkin

After Biden announced that he was ending his reelection bid, Sorkin posted a message on X via a friend’s account: “Harris for America!”

    Spike Lee

The iconic director kept his endorsement short, sweet, and full of emojis. On Sunday, he posted a picture of Harris on Instagram with a caption full of purple hearts, fire symbols, and clapping hands. “ONCE AGAIN A SISTA COMES TO DA RESCUE,” he wrote.

    Julia Louis-Dreyfus

In an interview with Stephen Colbert, the Emmy-winning actress joked that Harris is nothing like her character on the show, Selina Meyer.

“On ‘Veep,’ I played a narcissistic, megalomaniac sociopath, and that is not Kamala Harris,” she said. “It might be another candidate in the race.”

    Olivia Rodrigo

On Tuesday, Rodrigo posted a clip of Harris’s first campaign rally in an Instagram Story, which she captioned with the raising hands emoji. Rodrigo has long been a supporter of Biden’s administration, and that has now carried over to Harris.

    Barbra Streisand

In a recent interview, Streisand emphasized that Harris “will work to restore women’s reproductive freedom” and build on her accomplishments as Vice President.

    Mark Hamill

The man most famous for playing Luke Skywalker is also a well-known Biden supporter—and, now, Harris supporter. He’s even hosted numerous “White Guys for Harris” online gatherings to raise funding for Harris’ campaign.

    Pink

The singer Pink was another DNC headliner, where she and her daughter, Willow, sang an acoustic version of her single, “What About Us.”

They performed just after a group of people impacted by gun violence took the stage. Pink has spoken out against gun violence in the past, as she faced criticism from some conservatives in 2019 for reposting the poem, “America Is a Gun.”

  • Ferrari Uses Classic 1970s Inspiration to Deliver a Bold New Car

Ferrari Uses Classic 1970s Inspiration to Deliver a Bold New Car

Perhaps no other 1970s car has a more storied legacy in Hollywood than the Ferrari 365 GTB/4, commonly referred to as the “Daytona.” This Ferrari has been coveted by movie stars and rock gods alike and has even had several memorable screen appearances. From The Long Goodbye to 1976’s A Star Is Born to the original Miami Vice TV series, the Daytona has spent several decades being immortalized in film and television.

Now, the 365 GTB/4 is being revived. Ferrari design head Flavio Manzoni has said the Daytona inspired the brand’s new, $459,000 two-seater, the 12Cilindri.

A Design Ahead of Its Time

The automotive design of the Daytona, when it was released in 1968, was an immediate pop-cultural fixture. The vehicles’ design uniquely engaged with the moment’s cultural conversation and influenced future design trends. The late 1960s saw the rise of a more planar and angular language in cars, less adorned and more aligned with the Brutalist trend, having gained a foothold in architecture. Sports cars and supercars followed a similar trend, becoming lower, sharper, and more creased, almost as if they wanted to sneak under detection or slice through it. The Daytona was at the forefront of this trend.

Unlike its direct predecessor and nearly every Ferrari before it, it did not consist of voluptuously rounded forms, with prominent eye-like headlamps and a smirking grille. Instead, it was fronted by a razor-sharp prow that looked as though it did not care to meet your gaze and a pursed and nearly invisible grille veiled beneath its hidden pop-up headlamps. It was a radical break from the past and a high-water-mark moment for Ferrari’s cultural impact.

    AD 4nXdYZceKBbfww4RacomLptt8q7MBnWnAGWRK6ekkHzZdD 5L JkLCMbpzUDYhAaSyiv373d1GfGXxXvAVOldBEsaXCzql6yiaNlWN3JY5QR4PKsVu x60C0AgrJNUYy7dNvGmuur33unkS44Fsn95GMVGP0?key= eZJy2j6vszYqkYXf psZA

    The Daytona’s Celebrity Legacy

Nowhere is the vehicle’s impact on pop culture more apparent than when one looks at the laundry list of high-profile, at-their-peak celebrities who drove the Daytona.

Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters bought one, and so did Eric Clapton. After his hugely successful album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John splurged on a new one. Richard Carpenter, who, with his sister Karen, formed the soft rock duo The Carpenters, owned one that he loved so much he even featured it on the cover of the band’s platinum-selling 1973 album Now & Then. Infamous daredevil Evil Knievel bought one, which he sold a few years later to New York Yankees slugger Reggie Jackson. Academy Award-winning director Sydney Pollack also purchased one. But the Daytona’s legacy extended well beyond the ‘70s. In the ’80s, Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar bought one used.

The Daytona appeared in prominent films back in its day. In addition to its aforementioned roles in The Long Goodbye and A Star Is Born, it was one of the cars stolen in the original 1974 version of the car heist movie Gone in 60 Seconds

    The 12Cilindri: A Modern Tribute

The new 12Cilindri shares a silhouette with its ‘70s predecessor. Like its ancestor, it also sports a hugely potent V12 engine. This marks it as similarly out-of-time—albeit in a perhaps retrogressive way. As the rest of the auto industry leans into the efficiencies and emissions reductions of turbocharging and electrification, Ferrari’s thirsty, if mellifluous, V12 is an anachronism.

To say the new 12Cilindri bucks tradition and modern conventions would be an understatement, but in a unique way that keeps it more tonally and thematically in line with Ferrari’s storied past than many of its other most recent creations. Not unlike the actors, rock stars, and athletes who have long coveted and sought after the Daytona, Ferrari’s latest creation doesn’t simply aim to be a part of a cultural conversation, but rather to dictate it. In this way, Ferrari’s latest creation takes key inspiration from its past and uses it as fuel to go blaring into an uncharted future.

  • 10 Incredible Gallery Shows in LA for This Fall Season

10 Incredible Gallery Shows in LA for This Fall Season

Los Angeles is known for its incredible gallery shows, but this fall season they certainly seem to be bringing out their best selection. These 10 fall shows range from full-room artistic displays to intimate examinations of modern life, and they are sure to have something for everyone to enjoy.

    “Thinking Out Loud”

Recognizing local and international artists since 2000, the Vielmetter Contemporary Art Gallery in LA is featuring selected artworks from interdisciplinary artist Genevieve Gaignard. Her work acts as an exploration of her biracial identity through the perspective of contemporary American society, imposing introspective themes on a backdrop of vintage wallpaper. The gallery features a new selection of collage pieces by the artist called “Thinking Out Loud,” accompanied by custom wall paint to enhance the visual environment. The display will run from September 21 to November 2, 2024.

    “strike the dust”

A recent addition to the LA gallery scene, the New York-based Michael Werner Gallery will feature an exhibition of Florian Krewer’s latest work. Titled “strike the dust,” the show is a continued personal exploration of what it means to be alive in modern society, examining themes of loss, loneliness, and love. This exhibit will continue from September 13 to November 16, 2024.

    “Mojotech”

Since 1999, Roberts Projects has been a diverse and ambitious program intently focused on museum-quality installations. This fall, they are featuring Betye Saar’s “Mojotech,” a piece that ambitiously merges ritual objects with electronic parts, emphasizing the impact of technology on the natural world. The piece combines African sculpture and was created during a residency at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Visitors are encouraged to leave offerings, with the display running from September 14, 2024, to February 28, 2025.

    “Through the Vanishing Point”

At The Box, a gallery focused on contemporary painters, sculptors, and photographers, Eugenia P. Butler’s (1947–2008) work is featured in “Through the Vanishing Point,” focusing on Butler’s fixation on transformative states. Her art continues to have a tremendous influence on the conceptual and experimental sides of art. With no specified end date, the display begins on September 15, 2024.

    “nativemanson”

International art gallery Sprüth Magers, a leader amongst contemporary display spaces, is hosting Arthur Jafa’s first solo exhibition in LA, titled “nativemanson.” For 30 years, Jafa has explored his identity as a black man from Tupelo, Mississippi through film, sculpture, and murals. The exhibit will feature BEN GAZARRA, Jafa’s latest film, and a remix of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver.

    “The Open Window”

François Ghebaly is known for its network of multi-generational, international, and LA-based artists, and now the French painter and visual artist Brooklin A. Soumahoro joins their ranks. The collection of 10 abstract images is an ode to southern France, inspired by Henri Matisse’s 1905 masterwork Open Window, Collioure. Having spent years researching color theory for his project, “The Open Window,” the opportunity to see the display remains available from September 7 to October 12, 2024.

    “Azaleas”

Located in LA’s Koreatown, Commonwealth and Council is featuring Lotus L. Kang’s “Azaleas.” Born in Toronto and based in New York, Kang is known for immersive floor-to-ceiling installations made to explore concepts of becoming and reflection. This display runs from September 21 to October 26, 2024.

    “Concrete Is Fluid”

Honor Fraser is a contemporary art gallery with a focus on emergent technology and alternative interpretations of traditional mediums. Lauren Bon’s “Concrete Is Fluid” serves as the perfect fit for Honor Fraser’s perspective, using room-scale installations to contrast and interweave the industrial and natural landscapes. This exhibit will continue from September 14 to December 14, 2024.

    “L.A. Story”

Founded in 1992, Hauser & Wirth is home to displays of contemporary and modern art in several locations. In West Hollywood, they are featuring a compelling display based on Steve Martin’s 1991 film “L.A. Story.” The studio worked with Martin to capture the LA of the film and contrast it against the LA of today, examining the way art has changed. This display runs from September 12, 2024, to January 4, 2025.

“At Home: Alice Neel in the Queer World”

The David Zwirner gallery represents over 70 artists around the world, and the space now welcomes Alice Neel. “At Home: Alice Neel in the Queer World” is a collection of Neel’s paintings, depicting individuals in the queer community and their particular relationship with the artist. This is Neel’s second appearance in a David Zwimmer gallery, but the first in LA.

  • Former USC Pop-Up Opens Art-Filled Restaurant

Former USC Pop-Up Opens Art-Filled Restaurant

Recently, a pop-up restaurant called Museum, started by students at the University of Southern California (USC), garnered so much buzz from word of mouth that it had a waiting list of over 6,000 names. When Eater, a Los Angeles food magazine, reached out for a reservation, they were informed by Fardad Khayami, the co-founder, that it would be a four-month wait. Very impressive for a USC student pop-up with a self-trained chef, Fardad Khayami, in its kitchen.

Museum’s success is part of a larger story. Pop-up restaurants are popular in the Los Angeles area among diners looking for the best cuisine in the city. The temporary dining experiences showcase a diversity of culinary selections and experimental settings. Chefs are free to experiment with flavors and ingredients. Many of the temporary restaurants concentrate on creating dishes from locally grown seasonal ingredients, highlighting their sustainability and small carbon footprint. Other pop-ups feature little-known cuisine from different cultures, bringing traditional flavors from all around the world to Los Angeles.

Another popular aspect of pop-ups is the unusual locations of the temporary restaurants. Since the restaurants, chefs, and founders behind the pop-ups aren’t dependent on a permanent structure, they can be very creative in crafting unique environments that elevate the dining experience. Pop-ups have “popped up” in art galleries, museums, open spaces, rooftops, empty storefronts, and other unexpected places.

Word of mouth is always important for pop-ups. A satisfied customer is likely to tell their friends, family, and co-workers about their experience. A post on social media can also gain additional attention or even go viral. The more word spreads, the better for the pop-up. Museum’s popularity among students at USC is evidence of its success among its clientele. Like most pop-ups, reservations were needed to eat at Museum, though not all pop-ups have waiting lists with thousands of names on them.

    AD 4nXdG88 ljusnRLhTsbNOmpauysrPMVn9gqQ9zu2SoUWNYUDXXoylKBmN5

Pop-ups are also excellent places to discover new and upcoming stars of the culinary world. Chefs are free to experiment with their dishes and showcase their talents. For these unknowns, a pop-up is a place to build up their resume and draw attention. This is the case with Museum’s self-taught chef, Khayami.

Using pop-ups for artistic and culinary endeavors is a popular trend among USC students. For some time now, pop-ups that mesh food and art together into a singular, immersive experience have been a creative outlet for the students. Since pop-up restaurants are temporary, the founders can freely experiment with the menu, ambiance, artwork displayed, and forms of hospitality.

In the case of Museum, a revolving menu of fine cuisine and the exhibition of fine art were so popular it served 3,000 students over its lifespan and drew the attention of food critics. It’s no surprise that after being so successful, Khayami and his team have decided to build on their accolades like many successful pop-ups do.

Museum is now a permanent restaurant in the Santa Monica area and has been renamed Muse. Its opening was Friday, August 16, 2024. The new location has a modern look with Art Deco features and seats 35 in its intimate dining area, though it has plans for a private dining area to open in September. The interior was designed by Marc Ange Design Studio. The featured artwork for the opening is by Catalan-Spanish painter Joan Miró. In the future, the art exhibits will be rotated.

The menu showcases European cuisine from France and Italy. Divided into four sections, the menu is a la carte and the restaurant’s spokesperson says it will average “$125 a person.”

Khayami is once again in the kitchen. Chef Jason Gonzalez, formerly of Juliet, is the new general manager, while Matthew Rogel, from the acclaimed Felix Trattoria, is the wine director. Bringing on industry professionals is a clear indication that Khayami is determined to build on Museum’s success and make Muse a stellar dining experience.

The Inuit Dome: A New Era for the L.A. Clippers

The L.A. Clippers have been waiting a long time for a court of their own, after sharing a court with their rival for 25 years and enduring impossible game schedules and relocations. On August 15, 2024, they got their new home arena.

Approved by Inglewood in 2017 and having a groundbreaking ceremony in 2021, it took $2 billion and three years for the basketball team’s Inuit Dome to officially open. The opening days were kicked off with a concert by Bruno Mars to get fans and players excited for their new court experience.

“[They] deserve the ultimate home court,” said billionaire Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, “You’re going to have it here in Inglewood.”

As for now, there’s a lot to learn about the brand-new venue. Whether you’re wondering how to get to the big game, what you can expect inside, or what’s on the menu, this is what you need to know.

    Finding Your Way

Built across from the recently constructed So-Fi Stadium and situated between the 405 and 110 freeways, it’s not a tough place to find. There’s a parking structure on Prairie Avenue and 102nd Street, connected via a pedestrian bridge to the plaza entrance. The Inuit Dome is also accessible by ten bus stops, which will put anyone a short walk away.

    Artworks in the Arena

Outside the arena, the plaza is flanked by wide staircases leading to a restaurant, two bars, and a massive team store to satisfy a fan’s needs. Of course, there’s also a regulation basketball court at the entrance meant for public use, making the broader structure feel open and inviting.

Beyond the plaza, one of the world’s most expensive arenas waits. It’s huge, with panels designed to make it look like a basketball hoop, lit with animated lights that put on a show during the games at night.

Above the public court, the digital artwork “Living Arena” by Refik Anadol spans from one side of the court to the other, using LAX flight information and Inglewood weather data to create a beautiful data landscape for casual players to observe. The Clippers sourced this, and five other public installations by local artists for the plaza, making the arena more alive with culture. The dome’s lights themselves are another installation by Jennifer Steinkamp. Called “Swoosh,” they help give the arena its basketball hoop feel. “Cultural Playground” by Michael Massenburg is an encapsulation of LA’s cultural identity in a mural, and “Spring to Life” by Kyungmi Kim is a stained glass mosaic inspired by Centinela Springs, which once sustained the Tongva people. Of course, the installations wouldn’t be complete without “Sails” by Glenn Kaino, an imposing clipper boat for the team’s name.

    Inside the Dome

Within the arena, you’ll be met with a massive Halo Board designed to let everyone participate in the game. It’s 40,000 square feet of LED lights hovering above the court, letting the game unfold more dynamically and with real-time information.

Even the comfort in the Inuit Dome is state-of-the-art. In each chair, there’s a USB port for keeping your phone charged, a controller for playing games that appear on the Halo Board, and more leg room than anywhere in the NBA. They also come with built-in decibel gauges, because whoever’s loudest will get discounts on Clippers food and merchandise. With your discount, head to the fully automated concessions market, designed to grab and go by paying with your phone at the gate.

The Inuit Dome is also fully carbon neutral. Equipped with a vast array of solar panels and naturally acclimatized, they even took carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and used it in the arena’s concrete foundation.

    Tickets and Events

Beyond a season membership, tickets aren’t yet available. There are several upcoming concerts, however, scheduled for the next few months.

  • Steve Martin Pays Tribute to Art In Los Angeles

Steve Martin Pays Tribute to Art In Los Angeles

The city of Los Angeles has long been the centerpiece of many films, including the memorable 1991 Steve Martin movie, L.A. Story. In the film, Martin shines the light on the oddities and normalcies that are uniquely L.A. The film’s essence has been captured in a new art exhibit titled “L.A. Story” at the gallery, Hauser & Wirth. The exhibit is the brainchild of art aficionado and actor, Steve Martin, along with the gallery’s senior curatorial director Ingrid Schaffner, and senior director Mike Davis.

    An Hommage to L.A.

In the film, Martin plays the role of television weatherman, Harris K. Telemach, who searches for meaning. His quest pays tribute to art in LA. The actual exhibit, however, is not an exact translation of the film into art, but rather of art that is a representation of the L.A. experience.

It features iconic works, including David Hockney’s famous depictions of swimming pools – a reflection of the laid-back, sun-drenched lifestyle that L.A. is known for. Other artists, including Eric Fischl and Calida Rawles, contribute their interpretations of swimming and diving, which reinforces the city’s connection to water and leisure.

Beyond the Surface: Revealing L.A.’s Layers

While it has become somewhat commonplace to make fun of L.A.’s superficiality, there’s a great deal more depth to the city than its glossy exterior. The exhibition exposes the city’s complexity, from its car culture to its social stratification.

Ed Ruscha’s works capture iconic L.A. landmarks, while Florian Maier-Aichen’s photographs of Malibu’s coast—both dreamy and ominous—are a reminder of the city’s delicate relationship with nature. Mark Bradford’s monumental canvases reflect the city’s ever-changing social landscape demonstrating the impermanence that defines much of L.A.’s existence.

The artwork also includes a scene from Martin’s film, where a shootout erupts on L.A.’s chaotic freeways. This is a reminder of the dark side of the city which is both unpredictable and dangerous.

    Steve Martin: A True Artist

Steve Martin is more than a comedian. He is also a passionate collector and supporter of the arts as well as an advocate for Los Angeles’s art institutions. His personal collection includes masterpieces by art legends Pablo Picasso, Georges Seurat, Edward Hopper, and Roy Lichtenstein.

Martin is more than just a collector, however. He is also dedicated to bringing lesser-known talent into the spotlight. For example, in 2016 Martin was instrumental in organizing the first major viewing of Canadian artist Lawren Harris’s paintings at the Hammer Museum. The exhibition later traveled to other prestigious venues, including the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

In addition to his role as an art curator, Martin has written a novel, “An Object of Beauty,” set in the cutthroat world of New York’s art scene. The book offers a behind-the-scenes look at the dynamics of power and business in the art world. It highlights the distinction between genuine appreciation and the manufactured importance that often surrounds high-profile art pieces.

    A Love Letter to L.A.

For Martin, “L.A. Story” transcends being just an exhibition. It’s a love letter to the city that has been a central part of his life and career. “I’m thrilled that ‘L.A. Story’ is the focus of so many wonderful artists and a wonderful gallery, Hauser & Wirth, which is just across the street from the Troubadour, where I first stepped foot on Santa Monica Blvd., which began my L.A. sojourn,” Martin said in a statement. Ultimately, the show is a reminder that Los Angeles is not just a backdrop for stories, but a story in and of itself.

    Visiting the Exhibit: The Details

“L.A. Story” opens at Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles on September 12 and will run through January 2025.

  • Jack Flaherty Comes Home to the Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been aggressive at the trade deadline, as many anticipated, and have not come home empty-handed. Rather, they have acquired arguably one of the best options on the market: Detroit Tigers ace Jack Flaherty. A longtime Dodgers fan, Flaherty is coming home to Hollywood, and his presence is sure to bolster the Dodgers pitching staff, which has been damaged by numerous injuries all season long.

Even with Clayton Kershaw back in the mix, Los Angeles has struggled to field a healthy five-man rotation for weeks. But with Flaherty, all of that could be about to change. The 28-year-old is experiencing possibly his best season to date, posting a 9-5 record through 20 starts with a 2.97 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. His 150 strikeouts through 118.1 innings is one of the best ratios in the league.

Jack Flaherty’s Long-Awaited Move to the Dodgers

Flaherty has long loved pitching in Los Angeles, as he was born and raised in California. As a toddler, Flaherty even wore a Dodger uniform, dreaming of playing for the team one day. Now, in many ways, his dreams have all come full circle, bringing him back to the Dodgers as a pro.

How Flaherty Strengthens the Dodgers’ Pitching Roster

But beyond just achieving his own childhood dreams, Flaherty is also stepping into an ideal team set-up. Flaherty isn’t just pitching for the Dodgers. He’s pitching for what some would argue is the National League’s most talented team, possibly the best team in the league right now. But despite its talent, the team has been in desperate need of a reliable, uninjured pitching roster. With Flaherty on the mound, everything could very well go the team’s way.

    download 3 1

Once the playoffs arrive, there’s a good chance Los Angeles can field a dominant starting rotation despite the onslaught of injuries. That is especially true of Flaherty. After struggling post-deadline last season, when traded from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Baltimore Orioles, Flaherty is looking to avoid a repeat of history.

Flaherty has long been effusive in his adoration for the Dodgers and his new fandom. Based on his love of the team, fans can assume this was the move Flaherty had been dreaming of for decades, and one he was almost certainly hoping for at the trade deadline, whether he’ll admit it or not. Speaking with Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, the hard-throwing righty called playing in Dodger Stadium as a kid “an unforgettable experience.” Now, he gets to play there regularly.

It seems only natural then, that the St. Louis fandom became jealous. There was a lot of semi-justified outrage when Flaherty waxed poetic about the Orioles fanbase and the Camden Yards experience after the 2023 trade deadline. “I haven’t had to turn my PitchCom up at home in a while,” he said.

To some, that statement read as a blatant shot at St. Louis. Few would ever call the Cardinals’ fanbase disengaged, but last season was a disappointment for many, and the fanbase struggled with many of the outcomes. The Orioles were doing well for the first time in ages, and the Cardinals were struggling. Of course, there was more fan engagement in Baltimore down the stretch.

One can assume that Flaherty didn’t mean to insult the St. Louis crowd, nor does he intend to now. The breakup may not have gone over smoothly, but Flaherty has expressed no ill will toward the Cardinals organization.

Flaherty’s results have been mixed through several Dodgers starts, but he has been at the top of his game for the majority of this season. Los Angeles is counting on a monster finish to the campaign, and Flaherty is on track to deliver.

  • Antoine Griezmann’s Potential Move to LAFC

Antoine Griezmann’s Potential Move to LAFC

As the football world buzzes with the latest transfer rumors, one name that stands out is Antoine Griezmann. The French star is reportedly on the verge of a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), specifically to Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC). While the deal isn’t finalized yet, the possibility of Griezmann donning the black and gold jersey has sparked considerable excitement and speculation. This potential transfer, which could be completed before the MLS transfer window closes on August 14, or possibly in a later window, could have significant implications for both Atletico Madrid and MLS.

    Atletico Madrid’s Strategic Overhaul

Atletico Madrid is currently in the midst of a squad overhaul, and Griezmann’s potential departure could be a key part of this strategy. The club has been active in the transfer market, bringing in talents like Conor Gallagher from Chelsea and Julian Alvarez from Manchester City. These acquisitions suggest a shift in Atletico’s tactical approach, focusing on younger, more dynamic players to compete against La Liga giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Griezmann, despite having a stellar season with 23 goals and seven assists, is now 33 years old. Atletico’s move towards a younger squad signals that Griezmann might no longer be central to their future plans. With Alvarez potentially stepping into the role currently occupied by Griezmann, and Alexander Sorloth already in the squad, Atletico seems to be preparing for life without their French star. This strategic move could also help reduce the average age of the team, making them more competitive in the long run.

The LAFC Opportunity: A New Challenge for Griezmann

For Griezmann, a move to LAFC could represent a new chapter in his illustrious career. MLS has become an increasingly attractive destination for top European players, especially with the league’s growing competitiveness and global visibility. Griezmann’s potential move would not only boost LAFC’s profile but also add another layer of excitement to MLS, particularly with the growing rivalry in Los Angeles between LAFC and the Los Angeles Galaxy, known as El Trafico.

    AD 4nXdfQrDBfNXI9SN2YsMF7Rx

Joining LAFC would also reunite Griezmann with fellow French nationals Oliver Giroud and Hugo Lloris, who have already made the move to MLS. This camaraderie could ease his transition and help him quickly adapt to the league’s style of play. Moreover, with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, MLS is becoming a hotspot for international stars looking to make an impact on the American soccer scene.

MLS’s Growing Appeal and the Messi Factor

Griezmann’s potential transfer also reflects a broader trend in MLS, where clubs are increasingly signing global stars to elevate the league’s status. The recent arrival of Lionel Messi at Inter Miami has set a new benchmark, and teams like LAFC are keen to keep pace. With Denis Bouanga already a key player for LAFC, adding a player of Griezmann’s caliber could make them serious contenders for MLS supremacy.

The move would also align with the league’s ambitions to attract top talent ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the U.S. will co-host. The influx of international stars like Griezmann could help MLS grow its global fanbase and enhance the league’s overall quality, making it a more attractive destination for both players and fans.

    A Win-Win Scenario

In summary, Antoine Griezmann’s potential transfer to LAFC makes sense on multiple levels. For Atletico Madrid, it allows for a strategic refresh of their squad, positioning them for future success. For Griezmann, it offers a new challenge in a growing league where he can continue to shine. And for MLS, it represents another step toward becoming a global football powerhouse. As the August 14 transfer deadline approaches, all eyes will be on this potential deal, which could be a game-changer for all parties involved.

  • Dining at the Hollywood Bowl: A Culinary Experience

Dining at the Hollywood Bowl: A Culinary Experience

The Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles’ most iconic outdoor performance venue, has been a cornerstone of the city’s cultural landscape for over a century. With a seating capacity of 17,500, it stands as the largest outdoor amphitheater in the United States, offering Angelenos a unique space to enjoy world-class musical, theatrical, and comedy performances under the stars. But beyond its stellar lineup of events, the Bowl has also become a destination for culinary delights, offering a diverse array of food and drink options that elevate the experience.

Since the 1920s, the Bowl has been home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, establishing a tradition of accessible and affordable entertainment. In line with this mission, the venue has offered a range of ticket prices, including numerous $1 tickets available throughout the summer, ensuring that the magic of the Bowl is within reach for the entire community. However, one of the challenges that persist is the notoriously difficult parking situation, which can be alleviated by taking advantage of the Bowl’s shuttle services.

In recent years, the culinary offerings at the Bowl have seen a significant upgrade. Eight years ago, Sodexo Live, the Bowl’s food and beverage partner, teamed up with celebrated chef Suzanne Goin and restaurateur Caroline Styne. This partnership has transformed the dining landscape at the venue, infusing it with the same attention to quality and detail that Goin and Styne bring to their other renowned Los Angeles establishments.

    The Full-Service Dining Experience

For those looking for a more formal dining experience, the Bowl offers two full-service restaurants. The Backyard, inspired by Goin’s former Brentwood restaurant, Tavern, serves up a menu that showcases California’s seasonal produce and diverse culinary influences. Highlights include a charcuterie board, grilled diver scallops served over cornbread panade and wild mushrooms, and a cherry and apricot galette for dessert. Ann’s Wine Bar, named in honor of an LA Phil donor, provides a tapas-style menu with dishes like grilled hangar steak and prawns with sweet corn pudding, all complemented by a curated wine list from Styne. Both restaurants open at 6 p.m., and reservations are highly recommended, although limited walk-ins are accepted.

For those with premium tickets, the Pool Circle dining option offers an exclusive a la carte menu inspired by Goin and Styne’s former West Hollywood restaurant, Lucques. This dining experience is reserved for those seated at the tables closest to the stage, offering an intimate dining experience as the evening’s performance unfolds.

    Casual Bites and Picnic Options

The Hollywood Bowl also caters to those who prefer a more casual dining experience. Various kiosks and stands around the venue offer quick bites, including Suzanne’s Fried Chicken, street tacos with standout birria, all-beef hot dogs, hand-stretched pizza, and burgers. For those with a sweet tooth, the Sweetshop offers soft-serve ice cream, cookies, and non-dairy ice cream pies from Magpie’s.

Picnic baskets can also be pre-ordered, allowing guests to enjoy a curated meal anywhere within the Bowl. Options range from fried chicken to vegan, steak, and charcuterie themes, making it easy to tailor your picnic to your tastes. Guests are also welcome to bring their own food and beverages, including wine and beer, for most performances, further enhancing the personalized nature of the Bowl experience.

    Convenient Marketplaces

For those who prefer to grab and go, the Bowl’s three marketplaces offer a variety of prepared foods, including sushi, sandwiches, salads, cheese plates, and more. While the Plaza and East marketplaces tend to get crowded before shows, Buzz McCoy’s marketplace, located on the western side near the Field Gate, often has shorter lines and a fully stocked selection of snacks and beverages.

As the Bowl’s season now extends from May to mid-November, there are ample opportunities to enjoy not only the performances but also the diverse culinary offerings that make the Hollywood Bowl a truly unique Los Angeles experience. Whether you’re looking for a gourmet meal or a quick bite, the Bowl’s dining options are sure to enhance your night under the stars.
